Mark Tyzzer-Smith BDS (Hons)

Mark graduated with honours from Newcastle University in 1996. Having worked as an associate for 5 years, Mark and his wife Rachael took over Honley Dental in 2001.

Over his career Mark has gained considerable experience in all areas of dentistry; from minimally invasive cosmetic dentistry to dental implants. Mark has completed numerous advanced restorative and cosmetic dentistry courses over the years and has a particular passion for smile makeovers and full mouth cases. Mark’s experience and technical skills lead to a period of teaching, at The North of England Dental Academy, where he was able to share his knowledge with other dentists. Now Mark chooses to spend his time solely at Honley Dental where he is extremely busy treating existing patients, some of which he has been caring for for over 20 years; and also new patients – many of whom have come through recommendation. Mark is always happy to meet new patient’s to discuss how they can improve their smile and replace missing teeth.

Outside of work Mark enjoys playing golf, going to the gym and going on holidays.

Richard Fretwell

Richard comes from Wakefield in West Yorkshire. He qualified in 1997 from Newcastle University and has worked continuously in general practice. Richard has a continuing commitment to post-graduate education and is also a member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD) and the British Dental Association. Richard is one of the founder members of and past Chairman of the North East Private Dentist group a position he held for 3 years, he has been on the committee since its start in November 2005. Richard has an interest in orthodontics particularly invisible braces he is a Experienced Invisalign Doctor, his other interests include cosmetic dentistry and the treatment of anxious patients. Outside of dentistry Richard enjoys spending time with his children and fiancée Clare. Together with walking their dog Monty and keeping fit.

Holly Hancock

After qualifying from Bristol university Holly spent a year working in general dental practice.

Holly then went on to work in the Oral and Maxillofacial department in a hospital in Birmingham. Following this she spent time in community treating children and adults with anxiety and special-needs.

She is a friendly, approachable person and committed to delivering the best possible patient care. She aim’s to make even the most anxious patient feel relaxed at the dentist!

In her spare time she loves spending time with her family and friends. She like to run and love spending time in the country side.

Janet Brook

Position: Hygienist

Janet originally trained as a dental nurse and then went on to complete her training as a hygienist qualifying from Leeds Dental Institute in 1986. Janet has worked at Honley Dental since its opening in 1982.

Janet plays a vital role in maintaining the health of our patient’s mouths through a preventative approach. She is well known for her friendly and gentle approach. This has allowed her to build up trusting relationships over the years with many of our existing patient’s and also makes her very popular with new patient’s. Janet has been able to convert the most nervous and anxious patient’s into regular attenders.

Janet has been married to her husband for almost 30 years; outside of work she enjoys spending time with him, watching her 3 sons play sport, walking her dog and reading.

Katy Oldfield

Position: Hygienist

Katy has worked in mixed NHS and private practices since qualifying as a Dental Therapist from Leeds Dental Institute in 2007. Since then, she has gained extensive experience in reassuring nervous patients is passionate about providing good oral hygiene advice and care throughout treatment.

Katy creates a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere for her patients, taking care to ensure that they understand what will happen at every stage of their treatment.

When Katy is not working, she enjoys spending time with her family, keeping active with her three daughters, walking and watching her girls compete in various sports.

Louise Ainley

Position: Practice Manager

Louise qualified as a dental nurse in 1993. Louise is one of the longest serving members of our team, starting work at Honley Dental in 1991.

Louise no longer works as a dental nurse, she now dedicates all of her time to her role as one of our practice managers. If you come and visit us you are very likely to see Louise with a smile on her face on the front desk.

Louise lives in Honley with her 2 daughters. Outside of work she enjoys playing golf, walking and spending time with her family.

Katy Charles

Position: Practice Manager

Katy qualified with a National Certificate in Dental Nursing NEBDN from Leeds Dental Institute in 1998. Katy previously worked as dental nurse for Rachael in Batley; she was then personally selected by Mark and Rachael once they bought the practice and she joined Honley Dental as practice manager in 2004.

Katy is an important and versatile member of the team working as practice manager but also able to assist in surgery as a highly qualified dental nurse. Katy has taken her qualifications in dental nursing further, completing her training in dental radiography in 2002.

Katy has been able to speak Mandarin Chinese for around 15 years. Outside of work she is able to use this skill to help educate and share her religious beliefs with many Chinese people. In her spare time (which she has very little of) Katy enjoys spending time with her husband, walking and catching up with friends.
